With the Canadian Open having just finished up in Oakville, Ontario, we thought now would be a good time to update you on the status of the Glen Abbey Golf Course situation.
As you’ve likely heard by now, ClubLink has submitted an application to demolish the golf course, while Oakville Council is arguing their application is flawed because they applied under Section 34 of the Ontario Heritage Act. This act deals with buildings and structures, while the Town believes Glen Abbey is a landscape, and thereby covered by a different section.
ClubLink has plans to build 3,222 residential units, 9 apartment buildings between nine and twelve storeys, 69,000 square feet of commercial / retail space, and 107,000 square feet of office space. This would cover approximately half of the existing green space on the property.
Both ClubLink and the Town of Oakville have made their cases before the Superior Court of Justice, with Justice Edward Morgan overseeing the hearing. He will ultimately decide whether ClubLink’s application to demolish the course is valid.
If you would like to support the preservation of Glen Abbey, you can:
1. Tweet #OurOpen and #SaveGlenAbbey during the Canadian Open to show your desire to protect the Glen Abbey Golf Course.
2. Wear a sticker at the Open and/or display a sign. Message “Save Glen Abbey” on FB for more information.
